Gain Momentum with your KNOWINGS

January 10 2012

ADHD is a challenge of momentum. Don’t’ do the things that are hardest and most difficult first. Do those things that will get your engine revved up so you can build off the energy and forward movement you have already established. Don’t listen to the dominant beliefs that hold you back. Listen to the music that makes you sing, dance and come alive!

Many people with ADHD pay attention to the negative beliefs that have been reinforced, over many years, rather than focus on the successful things they KNOW they can do well.

When a tough challenge presents itself, the natural tendency is to focus on what is familiar. Even though you may have tremendous STRENGTHS, you still focus on what has NOT worked at the expense of what DOES.

Keep track of the things you do well. Here are just a few ways to do it:

1) Describe your successes, big and little, and keep them in a notebook

2) Place your successful pictures of joy, fulfillment in strategic locations at work and home

3) Keep important words, pictures, lyrics, quotes in your wallet or purse so when you forget your strengths and success, you can retrieve reminders of them whenever they are needed.

When you are able to pay attention to what YOU CAN DO it becomes the focus of your attention and energizes you! What are you doing to pay attention to your successful KNOWINGS?
